The primal freedom is the freedom to be the self, the freedom to live in the truth despite all circumstances. Secular freedom is having to do what you want to do. Religious freedom is wanting to do what you have to do.”

- Richard Rohr, Everything Belongs

Even at age 26, I still put my head in these things and yell...

Even at age 26, I still put my head in these things and yell “HELLRAISER”

Erissa: nice commercial

Erissa: nice commercial

The term “dark night (of the soul)” is used in Christianity for a spiritual crisis in a journey towards union with God, like that described by Saint John of the Cross.

Typically for a believer in the dark night of the soul, spiritual disciplines suddenly seem to lose all their experiential value; traditional prayer is extremely difficult and unrewarding for an extended period of time during this “dark night.” The individual may feel as though God has suddenly abandoned them or that his or her prayer life has collapsed. It is important to note however that the presence of doubt is not tantamount to abandonment—as there is a strong Biblical tradition of authentic confusion before God. The Psalms display King David, the ‘man after God’s own heart’ undergoing serious confusion before and anguish with God, yet this is not condemned or mentioned as being unfaithful, but rather as the only measure of faith that David could have in the face of such withering apparent abandonment. Mystery, however, does not mean simply not knowing something.

The greatest mystery is not the most distant star; on the contrary, the closer something comes to us and the better we know it, then the more mysterious it becomes for us. The greatest mystery to us is not the most distant person, but the one next to us. The mystery of other people is not reduced by getting to know more and more about them. Rather, in their closeness they become more and more mysterious. And the final depth of all mystery is when two people come to close to each other that they love each other. Nowhere in the world does one feel the might of the mysterious and its wonder as strongly as here. When two people know everything about each other, the mystery of the love between them becomes infinitely great. And only in this love do they understand each other, know everything about each other, know each other completely. And yet, the more they love each other and know about each other in love, the more deeply they know the mystery of their love. This, knowledge about each other does not remove the mystery, but rather makes it more profound. THE VERY FACT that they other person is so near to me is the greatest mystery.
”

- Dietrich Bonhoeffer

there are two sunssettingover the horizonof montez fire flies trying to jack lightfor nighttimethe...

there are two suns
setting
over the horizon
of montez
fire flies trying to jack light
for nighttime
the people are all lanterns
and they breathe heartbeats
happiness is an air
something we inhale
after the exhale
something to hold onto
when distance wears on us
we speak in daytime
and save silence for street lamp storytelling
live more
and eventually
you die less
be happy dear nick
theres so much world for you to love

It wants to break open the ripe fruit when it has hardly finished planting the shoot. But all too often the greedy eyes are only deceived; the fruit that seemed so precious is still green on the inside, and disrespected hands ungratefully toss aside what has so disappointed them. Whoever does not know the austere blessedness of waiting - that is, of hopefully doing without - will never experience the full blessing of fulfillment.”

- Dietrich Bonhoeffer
